Introducing Pasty & Pale

Dinner Sunsets

Since we have yet to sample sushi here, Ben and Travis stopped at the Fishmarket and picked up some Mahi-Mahi for fish tacos. There's also some monchong on the plate, a new fish Ben wanted to try. It was very tasty, as far as cooked fish goes. There are four BBQs overlooking the ocean and available for guest use. There was a steady stream of friendly people, and our timing was excellent. We didn't have to wait, and three of us saw turtles in the ocean. Pretty impressive creatures, poking their heads out of the surf. Ry hasn't spotted one yet ...

The fish tacos were very good and devoured by Ben and Travis. Ry and I liked them, too.

Here's your Monday evening sunset, complete with Tiki torch.

Lahaina Tour

Next stop, Lahaina. Cute town - a little Cannon Beach meets Seaside with some larger chains thrown in. The boys explored stores, looked at art, and checked out souvenirs. Did you know we could order a bronze piece from the Wyland Gallery and go watch it being poured right in Sandy, Oregon? No, I didn't either. Almost made me want to buy one, tho. I was this close!

Ry met lots of new friends, who now know he is three and that bigger boy is Ben and he's seven and he's his brother and I'm Mama and that guy is Daddy and we're in Maui and Maui is in Hawaii and our city is Portland. Breathe. And we saw a snail and a big black bee by the pink flowers and we have a new house and we're going to the beach and we're in Maui and Maui is in Hawaii. Lots and lots of new friends.

While in Lahaina, we saw the famous Banyan Tree. It's quite impressive. It was planted in 1873 in front of the Courthouse. It was a nice, shady spot with lots of branches for the boys to explore.

To cool off even more, we stopped in for Shave Ice. While Ben contends it should be Shaved Ice (and that Ry should call multiple octopus octopi), it was yummy no matter the name.

Thankfully, the early to rise little one crashed on our way back. We took turns running errands and let him sleep away. Thanks Maia and Auntie C for the loan of the car seat; sorry about the drool.

Beach Time!

I know you're supposed to wait 30 minutes after eating before you go swimming, but this beach was irresistible! It was right next to The Gazebo, so we decided to take a quick peak. Not too much in the way of swimming, although the sand quantities tracked into the care would make one think otherwise.

Exploring

The time change is tricky. So tricky, the boys had to get up at four a.m. so they could think about it. On the plus side (yes, there are even plusses to this), this gave us lots of time to explore. Once the sun rose, we started with the condo grounds.

We hit a great farmer's market, just down the street from our condo. It is conveniently located by a coffee shop, so we got that covered, too. Fresh pineapple and papaya were a slight deviation from our normal shopping list.

Super yummy breakfast, courtesy of a recommendation from Grani, at "The Gazebo." It's a little restaurant on the grounds of another condo in a - you guessed it - Gazebo! Fantastic food - worth the wait. Ben loved his white chocolate chip mac nut pancakes. Yummy!

Destination: Maui

The boys did a great job on the flight to Maui. The almost six hour flight to Maui. They were content, not too wiggly, and not too fussy. Definitely a success. The whining started once we got off the plane ... when are we going to the beach? when can we go swimming? when are we going to get to our condo? can you go faster?

It was all resolved by the time we reached our place, which was as described on vrbo.com. It's in a good location, comfortable, and has a nice beach and pool. And, it's less than a mile from Maui Brewing. A win-win all around.

The sunsets are pretty:

The beach is nice - secluded and so warm.

And the grounds are beautiful!

Vacation!

So I should probably have finished updating (okay, started updating) the blog before we left on vacation, but as per normal, I ran out of time. I've discovered that I do like sleep. Sleep is good. I yell less when there is sufficient sleep. So, less updating and more working, sufficient sleeping.

But no working this week! This week, I didn't even bring my work computer and we are all enjoying some time away and some time to relax. Three out of the four of us are asleep right now, as a matter of fact. One of us is snoring loudly.

So, let the annoying vacation postings being! I'll understand if you don't want to read these entries.
